This picture shows an image of the 2005 YU55, that is supposed to pass by earth on Tuesday.
Summary: On Tuesday an Asteroid the size of an aircraft carrier is supposed to pass by Earth on Tuesday. The name of the asteroid is 2005 YU55. It was discovered by scientists around six years ago. Scientists could never examine the asteroid properly until it was much close because of how dark it was and how far away it was. When it got close enough, scientists were able to conclude that the asteroid would miss Earth. Also this will be very hard to see because this asteroid is very dark. Luckily for us, the asteroid will miss Earth. This is good because we do not know what will happen if it hits Earth. There may be other asteroids like this heading our way, and we dont know which ones are a threat. That is why we have to develop some type of protection program against big and harmful asteroids.
Opinion: On Tuesday an asteroid will pass Earth, but lucky for us it will miss. Scientist were only able to conclude this a little while ago. This is a little scary, because what if the asteroid was supposed to hit Earth? This is why need to have some protection plan against asteroids, or some line of defense.

I agree with Varun. This would have been a major diasater if it hit earth. We should design a defence system because this could destroy all of civilazation if the astroid is big enough. If this astroid were to hit It would most likely hit the ocean, but if it hit land it would be terrible.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 3: One line of defense would be military missles of some sort. If it was an astroid this size it would not be hard to shoot it down because we already have the technology to shoot down an aircraft carrier.
Question 1 answer:hopefully the asteriods path can be gunned down by milatary means, but if it had to hit earth It would most likley hit the oceans but if it landed on land that could be disasterous.

ReplyDeleteThis could be very confusing if it Earth. Two different standpoints will be formed. On one side, people can think it is a very good idea to study the asteroids so we can learn more about outer space. On the other hand, People will be scared of future things, and will be petrified.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 2: Like you said, most asteroids are too dark and too far away to see. We just learned about this one and it is hitting on Tuesday. that is like a 4 day notice. So therefore, we will never be able to predict things that will happen.
I think this it pretty cool, but yeah is good it will miss Earth. I couldn't imagine what we would do if it hit earth.
ReplyDeleteQuestion 1: If this asteroid were to hit Earth we would be it total shock and confusion. We have no line of defense against hem it it would destroy whole states and countries and if big enough wipe out the human race, like it did with the dinosaurs. Good thing it missed Earth!
