EPA Recognizes Maryland Panera Bread as New Green Power Partner

Panera bread, commonly known for its bread bowl soup has been recently recognized for going green to help put an end to local and global pollution. The E.P.A. (environmental Protection Agency) has listed Panera Bread's 35 locations in Maryland as one of the top green powered purchase among retailers. It may not sound like much of an accplomplishment, but for a resturant thats pretty good. Panera's purchase of more than 11 million killowatts hours for its 35 locations in maryland is the same as avoiding exsaust fumes from 1,400 cars or saving the amount of electricity used from 800 homes. Panera's also purchasing enough wind energy and renewable electricity cirtiffacates for 100 percent of it's electricity use.
Overall I think that what Panera Bread is doing is just taking another step towards a cleaner world and I hope to see that it spreads throught the nation hitting all of its locations and inspiring many other chain resturants to do the same.

1. Do you think having " Green Fast Food Resturants" is a reachable goal.
2. What are the downfalls of making a resturant "Green".
3. To you what is more important, inventing electric non-pollutant cars or spreading the word of "Green" resturants.

  2. I agree with Jeff. Panera Bread is taking a big step forward to help out our planet. I will hope that Most resurants in the U.S. or even the world start to opperate the same way Panera does. I believe if this happens that could open many new doors for the future of alternitive energy sources. It would show that people actually do care and are willing to make the transition.
    Answer a Question:
    1) I think that having green resturants is easily reachable. If a bunch of resurants start decideing to make the switch I believe that the trend will just continue and spread out around the world.

  3. I agree with the both of them. I think that Panera Bread is taking a really big step to help the environment. I hope that all restaurants become green or even start to help the environment such as using the grease and fats left over to use for bio-fuel. If this were to happen than I think other restaurants would water to top that because the food business is always in competition with each other. They would just try to out beat the others and i feel this would help the environment by a lot.
    1. Like i said with the competition, I think that if one restaurant does it then others with cant on and try to top that to be the bigger one. I think that if this were to happen restaurants and businesses all over the would would go green and from this the Earth would become increasingly cleaner.

  4. What Panera Bread is doing, is an amazing thing. They are taking a big loep into being mroe eco friendly. Not only are they helping the environent, but more of setting an example for other resteraunts to catch on to. Panera Bread will get a lot of attention from this, and other companies will want it, so they will start doing it too. After this everybody will start doing it and it it will contribute a lot to the move of bieng more eco friendly.

Question 2- One of the downfalls of being more green is that it can be very expensive. What Panera did cost a little bit of money, and not everybody will not be willing to do that. Also sometimes a resteraunt can focus more on being green, and less than on the food.

  5. In my opinion, I feel this is a very good idea and this idea can be a prototype for other restaurants. Panera Bread will get more recognized and many restaurants will follow them. Even though they cannot change all the restaurants with this new investment, they can always sway the minds of them

Question 1: I do not believe this is a reachable goal. Fast Food, in general, is a very greasy and unhealthy food, and that is what people like about it. So many people will not consume this healthy fast food.
